Green Belt Safaris
Given the growing outside interest in the success of GBM Kenya's community-based approach to Environmental Conservation, GBM Kenya organized visits to the community projects where guests experience the work by staying and working with communities for 5-7 days. This followed by a few days of Conventional Tourism developed into Green Belt Safaris (GBS).
GBS Mission
The mission of GBS is to offer an alternative inter-cultural experience by engaging guests in cultural, eco-tourism, conservation and community experiences while generating funds to sustain the Green Belt Movement.
Green Belt Safari Options:
Green Belt Safaris offer a unique cultural experience and insight into the work of the Green Belt Movement. Depending on your needs, GBS will customize the safaris to include a variety of features and experiences.
GBM Eco-experience
This is the flagship GBS offering which combines community home stays with a visit to one or more of Kenya’s tourist destinations. Guests have the opportunity to experience the work of GBM while enjoying the rich culture, geography, history and wildlife that Kenya offers. This program typically lasts 10-14 days.
Educational Safaris
This option is ideal for student groups in need of a structured experiential program that encompasses lectures and visits to sites of environmental, historical and socio-cultural significance. It is an easy program to customize to fit clients needs. While it is ideal at 7-14 days, this program can be modified to fit any number of days.
At a Glance
“At a Glance” is ideal for friends and supporters of GBM who want to familiarize themselves with GBM activities in the field. Often short and focused, this program facilitates your visit in close collaboration with key staffs involved in program implementation. This program is often 1-2 days long with an overnight stay with the community or in a hotel, as appropriate.
Clean & Green
This is the perfect option for corporate and NGO clients looking to engage in team building or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. A typical program would comprise of a mass tree planting activity in an urban forest in collaboration with GBM. This program would typically be a one or ½ day activity
Plant for Kenya
As GBM scales up tree planting activities in forests and watershed areas, there is a unique opportunity to engage members of the public, both locally and from around the world, in mass tree planting activities with GBM. “Plant for Kenya” packages are planned around the planting season (rains). It focuses on tree planting but also facilitates inter-cultural exchange through community home stays. This program typically lasts for 3-5 days.
Culture
This option is ideal for our guests interested in experiencing Kenyan culture and history. The program focuses on visits to sites of cultural and historical significance coupled with lectures from experts in the field. A typical program would last 5-8 days and could be tied to one of the other options.
